FIELD TRIP -PRIYADARSHINI PLANETARIUM THIRUVANANTHAPURAM
As a part of Kerala University two year B.Ed curriculum,We, First year B.Ed trainees went for a field trip on 25th March,2022. This optional subject based field trip was included in the community based practical programme of the first semester syllabus. The purpose of the trip is usually for observation and analysis of the day to day activities of that place and to make report of it and to make trainees explore with experiences outside their everyday activities.
All the students were divided into two groups.Our first group had 58 students from English, Natural Science, Physical Science optionals. Faculties from these three departments were also accompanied with us. Places to visit were Priyadarshini planetarium Thiruvananthapuram, Zoo and Art gallery . The second group had 45 students from malayalam, social science and mathematics optional.Faculties from these three departments also accompanied with them.Everyone assembled in the Kottarakara by 7 am in the morning and had breakfast from the Indian coffee house .Teachers took the correct number of the students present and after that all of us got into the their corresponding two tourist buses.The journey began by 7:45 am. The students as well as the teachers had a wonderful time in the tourist bus.
We reached priyadarshini planetarium, Thiruvananthapuram at 10.15Pm. firstly we had visited the exhibiting items there. The models of hot sun, moon,early scientists and satellite models etc are displayed there. We can know the weight of us in various planets including earth from the instrument there.This one day field trip for teacher trainees aimed to develop critical thinking,scientific attitude,logical thinking,aesthetic sense, scientific awareness,imagination and creativity in teacher trainees and make them a good science teacher in future with full of science attitude and neglecting blind beliefs and practices. It was for this purpose that the students along with the optional teachers attended the field trip to Trivandrum.
Later we entered into the sky theatre and watched a science documentary about the origin of our universe ,planets and their stars ,their environment and everything related to it. It was a wonderful experience.it was a journey through various planets . Demonstrating the environment and speciality of planets help students to easily understood the topic which learn from science book in school and develop a positive attitude and interest towards science.we also visited electrical engineering and mathematics gallery near the planetarium. Different topics,laws, principles we had learn from textbook are demonstrated here.working and still models are very helpful to recall and re- collecting my early learned knowledge.
ZOO
Secondly we visited zoo after having lunch . Plastic bottles are not allowed inside the zoo and we need to pay to bring them inside. It was a superb experience as a first comer to the zoo. Zoo is a man made conservation to project and conserve animals in a man made surroundings.
We saw lion,tiger,leopard,deers,lots of birds,snakes,butterflies, monkeys,lion tailed maquaque ,rhinosurs and many other living creatures there.Everything have their own habitat inside the zoo. A special place is arranged for their living and lots of staff are there to observe and arrange their timely needs like food and others. There are guards also to project the dangerous animals from human beings.
It was a nice experience to watch and analyse the livelihood of those animals.Zoo visit was mainly arranged for natural science optional teacher trainees.
Thirdly we had visited the arts gallery near zoo.Pictures drew by the famous Raja Ravi Varma are displayed there.pictures depicting Indian traditions,customs,costumes are helpful to create and fix our awareness about our traditions.Pictures drew by other famous artists were also displayed in the art gallery.The pictures of Raja Ravi Varma are so famous because those pictures are focusing us from.all directions. It shows the talent of the genius artist All the pictures are beautiful and it had the name of artist drawn and year on bottom side.
Atlast we went to Kovalam Beach.We enjoyed a lot there.we take selfies and also watched sunset. This field trip add some unforgettable memories to my life.
Field trip provide an opportunity for the teacher trainees to took a break from their daily routine and learn and explore things from nature around us.we had visited planetarium,Zoo and art gallery. The students and teachers are very co- operative . Planetarium visit helped me to analyse the things around me in scientific way and to develop a positive attitude and critical thinking. Field trip develop co operation and companionship among students and make them good human beings .
